Where It All Began
Irma's musical journey began at the age of six, when she first sat at the piano and discovered her lifelong passion. Her talent quickly became evident, earning her a music scholarship to the prestigious Conservatory of Music at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines. She graduated with a major in Music Education and Piano, and a minor in Voice, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to performance, teaching, and inspiring others through music.
About Irma
Irma is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, and composer whose musical journey spans over two decades and continents. Classically trained and globally experienced, she now brings her talents to uplifting and inspiring audiences in aged care and faith-based communities. Her story is one of passion, resilience, transformation—and above all, service through music.
Musical Journey
Following graduation, Irma embarked on a successful international career as a pianist and singer, performing in five-star hotels across the USA, Japan, England, Italy, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australia, where she now resides. For over 20 years, she entertained global audiences with her rich repertoire and emotional depth.
As time passed, the physical demands of lengthy performances began to take a toll. It was then, almost by chance, that Irma discovered the aged care community. This encounter opened a new chapter in her career, one defined by deep purpose and connection. For the past six years, she has brought joy and nostalgia to elderly residents, finding her repertoire perfectly suited to their cherished memories.
The COVID-19 pandemic, however, put a pause on live performances between 2019 and 2021. Rather than see this as a setback, Irma used the time to deepen her understanding of music’s healing power by undertaking studies in Music Therapy. This training gave her greater insight into the mind, and into the profound emotional role music can play in the lives of the elderly.
Irma's Certificate of Excellence in Music Therapy
To further her commitment to enhancing the emotional well-being of others through music, Irma earned a Certificate of Excellence in Music Therapy, a course that expanded her knowledge of how music can be used therapeutically to benefit individuals, especially in aged care settings.
The Entertainer
With her classically trained touch, Irma plays the piano with sensitivity and soul, creating an atmosphere where memories come alive. Her smooth, dulcet vocals breathe new life into favourites from the 1950s to the 1980s—ranging from jazz and pop to country, Latin, and soft rock. Each performance is a carefully crafted journey through time.
Today, Irma performs regularly at retirement villages and aged care homes across the Gold Coast, where her music brings comfort, joy, and a gentle reminder of days gone by.
Music of the Spirit
As her personal journey evolved, Irma found her heart returning to the church, a place where she now finds deep peace and spiritual fulfilment. Her faith community has become central to her life, and she serves actively as an organist and singer within the Music Ministry of the Surfers Paradise Parish.
In 2006, Irma faced one of her greatest personal trials: a diagnosis of breast cancer. Despite the physical and emotional toll of chemotherapy and radiation, her indomitable spirit remained unshaken. Just three weeks after completing treatment, she returned to the stage, singing The Messiah with the Gold Coast City Choir.
This experience marked a profound spiritual awakening. With gratitude for her healing and a renewed sense of purpose, Irma began composing sacred music - melodies inspired by scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit. Her compositions are her offering: a heartfelt expression of thanksgiving and devotion.
For Irma, singing songs of praise is more than music, it is prayer made twice, where heart and voice unite in communion with the Divine.
“May the peace of the Lord be with you.”
